Best Heat Protection Spray for Hair? Check Out My TOP 5 Products!

We must be careful with heat. I don’t mean sunburnt skin or burning yourself while cooking. Today I want to focus on hair. How often do you use a hairdryer? Every day? Every other day? Do you use other heated devices for styling? Many of us can’t do without them but we need to realise they cause extreme damage and dryness. Flat-iron is the most destructive because it breaks disulfide bonds inside the hair. That’s why protection is essential when we heat-style our hair. Mine has been looking much better since I started using heat protectants. I even have a list of top picks! Check them out!

REVIEWS – Best Sprays for Thermal Protection – Effects on My Hair

#1 Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray

Size: 200 ml

Effects: protection, frizz control, reinforcement, nicer hair, nourishment

Scent: nice, resembles prestigious perfume

Key ingredients: silk proteins for smoothness, shine and strengthening

Effects on my hair: I like the Nanoil’s heat protectant spray the most. Thanks to powerful polymers, it creates a protective layer on the hair surface which has an extra shine-boosting and softening effect. Silk proteins in the formula have made my hair more resilient and smoother – it feels incredibly soft as soon as I use the spray. No other heat protectant I used gave me such amazing effects. It’s like the best leave-in conditioner. On rainy days I carry it in my bag and spray it on whenever the hair gets frizzy from humid air. Foolproof!

#2 Bumble And Bumble Hairdresser’s Heat/UV Protective

Size: 250 ml

Effects: protection, stopped dryness, moisturising dry and damaged hair, perfect for curly hair

Scent: nice, tropical

Key ingredients: grapeseed oil, almond oil, coconut oil, gardenia oil, macadamia oil, argan oil, safflower oil

Effects on my hair: I have fine, fragile hair so a blend of six oils doesn’t always do well. The effects on my hair are different depending on when I use it. It’s useless in the winter when I wear a beanie but it proves a success in the summer after a bath in the sea – it brilliantly protects the hair from damaging sunlight and heat. And I guess that’s what Bumble And Bumble Hairdresser’s Heat/UV Protective is made for – given the tropical fragrance, we shouldn’t have any doubts. It’s the best choice for summer holidays. I also think it’s good for curls, stopping frizz and slightly smoothing them.

#3 Balmain Thermal Protection Spray

Size: 200 ml

Effects: heat protection, stopped dryness and frizz, reinforcement

Scent: quite nice

Key ingredients: castor oil, argan oil, hydrolyzed plant proteins

Effects on my hair: first, the product effectively protects the hair against the hot airstream of a dryer (up to 220 degrees Celsius, like Nanoil’s spray). I rate it for such a powerful protective effect but I’m not as enthusiastic about the price… Balmain Thermal Protection Spray contains oils but they’re in proper proportions so they don’t overload my fine hair. Hydrolyzed plant proteins are great because they penetrate the hair to strengthen it and stop damage.

#4 Philip B Thermal Protection Spray

Size: 60 ml

Effects: protection, frizz control, slightly moisturising effect

Scent: well… I don’t have an opinion

Key ingredients: castor oil, panthenol, amino acids, kale leaf extract, white lupine extract

Effects on my hair: this spray is peculiar… Sometimes it’s good on my hair but other times it isn’t. For example, when I used it in a combo with emollient substance (oils), then it was okay, but when I used it together with hydrating ingredients – with algae or aloe it was the worst – then my hair went dull and frizzy. In other words, Philip B Thermal Protection Spray is likely to leave your hair ‘overproteined’. The final result depends on your hair type and the hair products you use. I think it works best on heavy, thick, low porosity hair – it shouldn’t trigger frizz and dullness but should add some volume and secure against damaging external factors.

#5 Kérastase Genesis Défense Thermique

Size: 150 ml

Effects: protection, smoothness, straightening, anti-hair loss effect

Scent: nice, sweet

Key ingredients: edelweiss extract, plant-derived proteins, ginger root extract

Effects on my hair: a really good heat protectant spray. I like it because it helps me smooth and straighten the hair without weighing it down. When it comes to ingredients, there are some nutrients but they’re in small amounts so we shouldn’t expect deep nourishing. Still, it’s an effective heat protector. I just don’t like the price and small size.
