I’m Testing DIY Cluster Lashes From Popular Brands. Discover My Favorites!
When it comes to eyelashes, mine are short and flat, and they never seem to grow any longer despite my meticulous lash care routine. In an effort to enhance my lashes, I’ve tried everything from glue-on strip lashes to salon extensions. Unfortunately, my eyes are super sensitive, and all of these methods have irritated my eyes and damaged my natural lashes. Then, I started hearing some great things about DIY lash extensions.
DIY lash extensions – how do they work?
This type of lashes is applied to the underside of your natural lashes for a more seamless look. I decided to try them despite my previous lash disasters. I’m so glad I did because the results were game-changing and my lashes have never looked better. Here are my honest reviews of the 5 at-home lash extension kits I tested, all coming from popular and well-established brands. While testing the kits I considered whether the set includes all the necessary products and accessories for applying the lashes in the comfort of your home. I also noted the number of cluster lashes you get in the kit and their comfort and quality. Last but not least, I considered the durability of the lash clusters and the affordability of each kit.
At-home lash extension kits – ranking
1. Nanolash DIY Eyelash Extensions Starter Kit
The first place in my ranking goes to the lash extensions kit from the Nanolash brand. I was already familiar with the brand so my expectations were quite high.
This at-home eyelash-styling kit includes:
- 36 cluster lashes in three lengths: 10, 12, and 14 mm,
- a bonder and a sealer necessary for applying the lashes,
- a special applicator to facilitate applying the clusters and fix the finished look,
- a remover, to remove the lashes quickly and safely.
As you can see, this kit contains all the necessary products and accessories that are supposed to allow you to apply lash extensions in just 10 minutes. In fact, I believe it took me less than that to apply these cluster lashes as the application process was really effortless! A single case of these DIY cluster lashes lasted for 6 full applications and I could enjoy my beautiful gaze for 7 days.
The lashes come in 8 styles to choose from and they are available in black or brown. I chose the brown version as a fan of a natural look and the lashes looked super-natural. Overall, I think this is a great kit for beginners and professionals alike.
2. KISS Falscara Starter Kit
Although this lash extension kit for home use contains just 10 cluster lashes, enough for a single application, I decided to include it in my ranking due to the fact that the cluster lashes are extremely soft and comfortable to wear. With proper care, they are reusable, so the kit will last for longer.
However, in order to care for these lashes properly, you will need the Overnighter Long Wear Sealer, which is sold separately, unfortunately. Apart from the lash clusters, the kit contains:
- BOND & SEAL to prepare the lashes and keep them in place
- a precision applicator.
The lashes come in two lengths: 10 and 12 mm and I wish they also came in longer clusters so I could make the lashes in my outer corners look longer and more fluttery.
I believe this is a fantastic kit for beginners but you must keep in mind that if you want to reuse the lashes, that will take an additional expense, making the kit not the most economical solution.
3. Lashify Starter Kit
This was the priciest kit I tested and one of the first products of this kind on the beauty market. The Lashify kit gives you the choice of your lash style and size. You can choose from:
- Amplify (most natural)
- Bold (thicker fiber like mascara)
- Curl (similar to Amplify but a stronger curl).
Each kit comes with 10 cluster lashes in two lengths 10mm and 12mm. Considering the high price of the kit, the fact that you will use up all the lashes during a single application is not too impressive.
However, these cluster lashes were so soft and feathery, wearing them was a pure pleasure. This is probably due to the fact that they are made of pure Korean silk.
If you are looking for top-quality cluster lashes and you don’t mind breaking your budget, the Lashify lash-styling kit might be the best solution for you.
4. Lilac St Originals Starter Kit
The Lilac St starter kit for at-home lash extensions provides all the essential products and accessories in one kit. This kit for styling eyelashes at home includes:
- 30 cluster lashes in two sizes 10mm and 12mm
- Lilac Lash Glue in Clear
- Lilac Lash Applicator
- Crystal Coat
The lash clusters in this kit are vegan and cruelty-free. They are supposed to last 10 days on the eyes and the Crystal Coat is enriched with various botanical extracts to keep your lashes looking healthy and shiny.
However, this kit has some drawbacks too. To keep your cluster lashes looking fresh, you need to cleanse them regularly using the Lash Bath Kit that’s sold separately, meaning extra expense.
The lashes felt so natural though and it was hard to distinguish them from my natural ones. Plus, it took me less than 10 minutes to apply them. Taking them off was more tricky, as it took me a while to remove the glue residues from my natural lashes.
5. Tatti Lashes Invisi-Lash Kit
The Tatti lashes kit allows you to create a Russian Volume Lash look in the comfort of your own home. Each case of the individual clusters is enough for 4-8 fresh lash looks and the lash clusters can be re-used multiple times as long as they are cared for correctly. This lash-styling kit contains:
- 1 pack of cluster lashes (7 styles to choose from)
- Invisi-Lash Bond & Seal Glue (you can choose between black or clear)
- 1 curved stainless steel lash applicator.
- 1 pink lash wand
I decided to test the clear version of the Invisi-Lash that is supposed to work best for blondes and brunettes. I tested the brown lash clusters in Cappuccino and they were perfect!
The lashes looked perfectly natural and I got a lot of compliments while wearing them. However, after just two days of wear, my eyes started to feel red and irritated. At this point, I decided to remove the lashes. It was quite hard as the kit does not include a remover. Luckily, my micellar water worked just fine.
Best cluster lashes for self-application – my impressions
If you want to find a professional lash-extension kit for home use, you must make sure the cluster lashes feature high-quality and that applying them is quick and easy.
They should also be eye-friendly and cause no irritation or damage to your natural lashes. It’s also good if they are available in dozens of lash styles, lengths, and even colors to choose from. You should also be able to reuse them and get them wet.
The kit that combined all these features for me was the Nanolash DIY Eyelash Extensions Starter Kit. The other kits included in my ranking also worked great but each one of them came with some shortcomings. However, you must match the kit to your needs and preferences so I leave the choice up to you.
